Keyless handover lets you unlock, drive and lock a rental or shared car with a smartphone app, with no physical key and no rental desk. Commands are encrypted and, depending on the system, travel over the cellular network to the car's online interface or over Bluetooth directly between phone and car.
How Digital Access Works
After booking, the person who booked receives a digital permission for their time slot. At the car, the app sends the unlock command, the doors open and the car can be driven without a key fob.
At DRAIV you unlock cars with instant booking in the app, and the command reaches the car online. When you return it, you lock it in the app again. Some request cars are handed over in person by the owner, and the car says so.
A Rental Without a Counter
Traditional car rental means queues, paperwork and opening hours. Keyless handover removes them:
- No opening hours: Pick the car up early in the morning or late in the evening.
- One app: Choosing, booking and unlocking the car all happen digitally.
- Flexible locations: Cars can be parked in neighbourhoods, near stations or at hotels instead of only at large branches.
Security and Reliability
Only the person who booked can unlock the car, and only during the booked time slot. Systems that use Bluetooth also work in underground car parks without cellular reception. Systems that work over the internet need a connection to the car.
